George Quarshie writes, "Time Never Waits For Anyone"

Time is defined by the oxford dictionary as the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole. One of the most precious resource we have as human beings given to us by God is

“Time” yet it is one of the least effectively utilized resource especially in this part our world. Properly managing time as a resource can make a lot of difference in our lives as a people and most importantly we the youth. This article looks at how best we can manage our time effectively.

In this current age, there is so much distraction that we as the youth turn to waste our time on unprofitable ventures. A typical example is social media such as facebook, twitter and whatsapp take up much of our time such that we are not able to complete what we set out to do each day. A research conducted by marketing charts indicates that users of these social media spends up to an average of 3 hours each day on these social platforms. This means that in a year, a user would have spent 1,095 hours on social media. If time is money then we can estimate how much money we waste every day on these social media platforms. Although social media is a good way of interacting with family and friends, it shouldn’t be a source of distraction for we the youth. Let us try our best to minimize the time we spend on these social media platforms so that we can get enough time and focus on our Christian life, our careers and studies.

Lateness has become a norm in our society such that people deliberately wait to set off to their various destination thirty minutes after the scheduled time due to reasons best known to them. This has even resulted in the acronym GMT which means Greenwich Meridian Time has been changed to “Ghana Man Time” because we want to do things our own way without respecting time. We must make an effort to be punctual at all meetings and gathering we attend. Procrastination is also a waste of our time as young people because we always want to postpone what we have to do today to a later date and unfortunately many of us never do them. Procrastination has popularly been described as the thief of time. The bible also tells us that there is a time for everything in Ecclesiastes chapter 3 therefore let us to do what we have to do today because tomorrow comes with its own challenges.

If time never waits for anyone then proper management of our time is necessary in order for us to be successful in life with little or no regrets. First of all to properly manage your time you need to set goals and objectives; that is things you intend to do at the end of each day. In doing this it will help you to compare your actual work done each day with the goals you have set so that you can properly assess whether you are meeting them or not. In addition to setting our daily objectives, we also need to prioritize what we want to do within the day since may not be able to do all we want to do within the day. Setting daily goals and prioritizing what you want to do will also help you avoid interruptions and distractions.

Proper time management of our time comes with a lot benefits such as having more time to study the word of God and pray and getting more work done without wasting time. It also improves our reputation in society.

Conclusion
I have heard some old people reflect on their youthful life and regret the amount of time they wasted doing unnecessary things. Indeed as day and night pass as by we shall one day give account of ourselves to both God and society as to how best we used our time. We should therefore put our time to good use as we are young so that we can give a good account of ourselves. This is indeed the biggest truth of life: TIME NEVER WAITS FOR ANYONE.

Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.” ― Mother Teresa
